“Ovarius Creativus”. 2024. Fabric, thread, wire, yarn, beads, sequins, acrylic. 44” x 34.25” x 4”
Ovarius Creativus celebrates women’s often overlooked legacy in art. While the ovaries of a menopausal woman might evoke images of barrenness, this piece challenges that notion by portraying the female reproductive system in full bloom. Though I can no longer give birth to a child, I can give birth to ideas that flourish.
The central motif—an abstracted uterus—features intricate embroidery and vibrant floral patterns. The ovaries are filled with flowers, symbolizing seeds of creativity, while butterflies emerging from the uterus represent life’s continuous cycle. This work blends organic and surreal elements, emphasizing the transformative power of women’s experiences and connecting the historical roots of women’s artistry with contemporary material innovations.
