About
Macarena Zilveti (b. 1961, Santiago, Chile) is a multidisciplinary artist and poet based in South Florida. Working across painting, writing, and textile art, she draws from her Chilean, Bolivian, and American heritage to explore themes of identity, memory, and the feminine experience.
Although she began as a painter, Zilveti found her artistic home in fiber art, a medium that connects her to her grandmother’s teachings in knitting and embroidery. Her textile work blends rough and delicate materials, vibrant colors, and layered textures inspired by the woven traditions of the Andes.
She holds a BFA from Syracuse University and studied at Moore College of Art. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including the XI World Textile Art Biennial in Miami and Threading the Americas at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas.
Zilveti is also the author of the Spanish-language poetry book Dulce Oscuridad, recipient of an Honorable Mention from the International Latino Book Awards, and The Red Haze of the Sun. Her practice merges fine art and poetry to honor ancestral narratives and celebrate the resilience of the feminine spirit.
