“Go With the Flow”, 2024. 14″ x 14″ x 2″ Upcycled fabric, thread, yarn, beads

I began my artistic journey with painting, but my true calling emerged when I discovered fiber art. This practice connects me to my grandmother, who taught me the slow, meditative crafts of knitting and embroidery. In my work, I follow the thread wherever it leads—through rough fibers, translucent materials, and vibrant yarns. These textures tell their own stories, and I help bring them to life.

Fiber art has brought me inner peace and a sense of connection to my ancestors, as I imagine their hands weaving the colorful tapestries of the Andes. The piece I’m submitting, Go with the Flow, celebrates the Lily of the Incas, a flower native to Chile, my homeland. Using beads, tulle, and traditional stitches like running stitch, satin stitch, and border stitch, I highlight the plant’s natural beauty and vibrant diversity, while honoring the rich textile traditions of the Americas.
