The Pool

the sac
meets a soft
sudden sweep of azure water
infant stirs
suddenly moving
to the same sweeping rhythm

slowly, legs
continue inward
introducing breasts
surprising them
sparkling water
jolt cold

the kick is felt
deep in the gut
infant rebelling
let me OUT!

barely 26 weeks
not enough time
to grasp the totality of the near future

AGAIN the KICK!

any rest for mothers-in-water?

no such luck
waves start coming in
blending with blue mosaic tiles
clear sign it’s a boy

pink water lilies
flutter in the distant breeze
another signal perhaps?

kicks are fading
time for another nap
waves subside
tame ripples at present

edges will be nicely tucked in
ready for another night
of rippling waterfalls
yesteryear of days gone by

when the womb was wet
with mouthwatering blues
melting with pink lilies
into the pool of tomorrows
